‘What The Clock Means To Me’ - message from a Clock member

“The Clock is quite literally a life saver. Back when my brother was homeless they made sure he had somewhere to sleep, food to eat and he was looked after.

Fast forward to now: The Clock helped me and my boyfriend out massively. We were made homeless by my family, found out we have a baby on the way and we didn’t have a clue what to do (other than blind panic).

Kirsty, Abigail and everyone helped us out with arranging health care, housing, furniture, baby clothes and food. I couldn’t imagine where we would have ended up without The Clock. They literally saved us and I really hope one day, we can repay the favour by helping out others in need that The Clock support.

Support Worker's account

B and C arrived at The Clock appearing very lost and unsure about their situation. C was homeless and 'sofa surfing' and B was living in a situation that posed potential risk. They had just discovered B was pregnant but had not accessed healthcare as B was not registered with a G.P surgery. As her support worker, I ensured she registered at the doctors and went with her to complete the registration. I then arranged an antenatal appointment with the hospital, as we suspected B was in the latter stages of her pregnancy. The Clock then provided transport and accompanied B and C to their appointment, whereupon it was confirmed that B was approximately 35 weeks pregnant.

It was imperative that B and C had adequate, secure housing in place, not only for themselves but for their child. I arranged a meeting with Hambleton District Council to look at  options and to start the process of applying for housing. In the meantime, once B's pregnancy and due date had been confirmed, she was asked to leave her family home, which then made their situation even more tenuous. We immediately informed Hambleton District Council of the change and then followed this up with producing the necessary evidence B needed such as proof of I.D, address and bank etc. B and C needed required support to gather this evidence, which was then forwarded to the council and followed up by further meetings. Throughout this period, we continued to meet with B and C on a regualr basis and provide food parcels and 1-2-1 support to them .

Hambleton District Council were able to provide emergency accommodation due to the change in their circumstances, however B and C still remained in great need. With the impending birth of their child and imminent house move, they found themselves without furniture, household items and essentials for their baby, nor did they have the funds to purchase them. The Clock stepped in as an organisation by putting out an appeal for the items they needed on social media, which was greeted with a very generous public response. B and C received everything they needed, including a bed; up until now they had both been sharing a sofa. The Clock helped them move everything into their new accommodation and is still supporting them through their journey.
