Clock Works

The brand name for The Clock's trading activities

In August 2018 The Clock launched a new venture and started trading using the brand name Clock Works This brand has been created to allow us to identify and promote the trading activity our charity is now undertaking. All of the activity will be answering a need we have identified through engagement with our community.

Clockworks will exist to do 3 things:

  • Make money to help fund the projects delivered by The Clock
  • Provide job, volunteering and skill development opportunities for local people
  • Be a place where the community can come together to share its resources (such as time, skills, places, ‘stuff’…) to create a positive social and environmental impact.

Clock Works Community Re-use Store

Our first venture is already underway – it’s called Clock Works Community Re-use Store and will initially sell donated furniture to the general public, so local people have access to good quality used household items and people have somewhere to send their surplus items other than landfill.  In 2019 we will be adding a Community Workshop, whereby furniture items requiring repair or refurbishment will be improved by our team of local volunteers and young people/adults on placements from our various programmes will be learning new skills and making the best use of our community’s resources.  We will be adding in refurbished bicycles to our range in early 2019 and will be looking at how we can provide a trading solution for re-usable baby and children’s equipment and school uniforms.

We are now trading from our (temporary, potentially permanent) home at 61 Market Place in Thirsk (behind White Horse Café).  We have a Facebook page where you can keep up-to-date with what happening at Clock Works

What we are looking for:

We will welcome donations of furniture, large electrical goods such as fridges, freezers, tumble dryers (but not those that require a water supply such as washing machines as we have no way of testing them) large household items which are suitable for reuse (such as mirrors and other wall decoration).  All items must be in good re-saleable condition, free of dirt, stains, rips, tears, smells, heavy wear, damp, water damage, rust or any other damage.

All soft furnishings and beds need to have a fire safety label which indicates compliance with the 1988 Fire Regulations.  We are unable to accept items without these - please understand that items we are unable to re-sell cost us money to dispose of

Electrical goods must be in working order and we will PAT test them before sale..

We can arrange to collect items in high demand from YO7 postcodes at no charge or you can deliver items to us at the store during opening hours.  Please call us to advise if you are delivering to us to make sure we have space for it.

Items in high demand are:

Beds and Mattresses; Sofas and Armchairs; Drawers, Wardrobes, Bedside Cabinets; TV Units/stands; Bookcases; Pine Furniture (including Dressers); Coffee Tables, Dining Tables and Chairs; Dressing tables and desks; Mirrors, modern wall art, canvases; Fridges and Freezers; Tumble Driers; Kettles; Electric Ovens; Lamps; Side Tables.
